Kartikeya Gummakonda will be seen next in the upcoming Telugu film titled Chaavu Kaburu Challaga. The film is directed by Director Koushik Pegallapati and features Lavanya Tripathi as the leading lady. Chaavu Kaburu Challaga narrates the story of a cemetery worker Basthi Balaraju. Talented music director Jakes Bejoy is composing the music for this flick, while Suneel Reddy is cranking the camera. Chaavu Kaburu Challaga follows the story of a hearse driver named Basthi Balaraju (Karthikeya Gummakonda.) Balaraju is called for funeral processions in his area and during one such procession he happens to see Mallika (Lavanya Tripathi) who is the wife of Peter. Mallika accompanies the funeral procession to bury the mortal remains of Peter and Balaraju happens to fall in love with Mallika. Balaraju tries to get to know Mallika and tells her about his feelings but Mallika does not reciprocate. Balaraju’s approaches become too much for Mallika who in turn files a police complaint against the former. This is when Balaraju’s mother played by Aamani comes into the picture and the movie gets a twist. How Aamani’s entrance changes Balaraju’s life forms for the rest of the movie.
Karthikeya’s performance as a guy who lives in a slum and operates a hearse is spot on and gives the audience something to think about. The life of a hearse driver is not known to many and Karthikeya shines a light on to how dark the lifestyle is for hearse drivers. However, Balaraju tries to find happiness wherever he could and more often than not it involves dark humour. Lavanya Tripathi on the other hand delivers a meaty performance in depicting the life of a widow in a slum. Both Karthikeya and Lavanya manage to work the roles of their characters to their advantage. Aamani also gives a convincing performance as Balaraju’s mother, while Murali Sharma and Srikanth Iyengar play important roles and they deliver what is expected of them.
Koushik Pegallapati, the director managed to tell a love story which is not usually seen in Tollywood. While the audience know how the story ends, the characters, the location the story takes place in is what makes Chaavu Kaburu Challaga quite interesting.
Chaavu Kaburu Challaga is a love story with a very unique setting and peppered with loads of dark humour. Head out to the theater to watch this love story with a twist during the weekend and enjoy the performances of Karthikeya and Lavanya.
