The film Pushpa: The Rise is a story of a truck driver and smuggler named Pushpa Raj in Seshachalam forests in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The film deals with the smuggling of Red Sandalwood which is endemic to South Eastern Ghats of India.

Synopsis:
The film opens with the plot of smuggling the red sandalwood in the forests. The further details of the story gets revealed with the narrative point of storytelling from the hero saying about the character and the world of Pushpa Raj. Pushpa meeting the love of his life and his emotional bonding with his mother are the other sequences. How Pushpa becomes the leader of that group of the smugglers fighting against the other evil forces and rising to the crown is the run of the story.

On-Screen Performances:
Allu Arjun as Pushpa Raj is seen in a never before character of his life. The raw look itself made his presence unique on the screen. The body language and the mannerism are so apt and perfect to the character of Pushpa. The dialect and the dialogue delivery stands to the best level. It is so fresh to watch his intensity in such a role and this film raises his standards of acting much higher. Rashmika, seen in a deglamour role as a village girl, showcased her performance more than her elegance. She looks like a perfect match to Pushpa Raj as Srivalli. Fahadh Faasil even though does not have much screen time, proves his best to the given role. It is evident from the story and the climax that his character as Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat would play a major role in the second part of the film. Sunil surprises the audience with his performance as Mangalam Srinu. The audience gets a new experience watching him.The other cast of the film Dhananjaya, Anasuya, Ajay Gosh, etc are all perfectly fit to their roles. Samantha appearing in the special song is really a special attraction on the big screen.

The characters of Pushpa are the pure soul of the film. Sukumar choosing this story in the backdrop of red sandalwood smuggling is a good move. The characters played a huge role for the run of the film. The story and the picturisation are so detailed to reveal the process and secrets of smuggling in the forests. The emotional scenes are written so well. The action sequences are filmed so elegantly besides bringing that raw look. The difficulties of shooting can be imagined and known after watching those visuals. The cinematographer needs to be given special credit in this aspect. The ambience of the forests is captured so well the audience could feel the same in the theatre from the visuals on screen. The music stands out to be another highlight of the film. The songs got a good response before the release itself. In addition to that, the background score from DSP supports the soul of the film. The action sequences stand out to be another highlight of the film. The stunts from Ram Lakshman and Peter Hein made a fusion to bring out both the native and stylish look to the fights.
Overview:
The film gives the audience a new world of experience dealing with smuggling. Even though the story does not have a great scope to elaborate, the characters are loving and worthy enough to watch. The audience can watch out for Allu Arjun presented in a new way by the director. So keeping aside the highs and lows in the journey of the character Pushpa, the film is all about the rise of the man. So the audience needs to wait to watch the rest of his journey in the second part, Pushpa: The Rule and the wait is worth it.
