Natural Star Nani is back with Shyam Singha Roy after his last release of Tuck Jagadish on Amazon Prime. The film is directed by Rahul Sankrityan and is produced by Venkat Boyanapalli under the banner of Niharika Entertainments. The film is a romantic drama that takes place in the 1960s in Kolkata. Shyam Singha Roy is based on a protest against the evil practise of Devadasi System. The film stars Sai Pallavi and Krithi Shetty as the leading ladies alongside Nani. Nani played the dual role in the film, one as a filmmaker in the 2020s named Vasu and the other as a revolutionary writer in the 1960s named Shyam Singha Roy. The makers of the film planned to release the film in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. Shyam Singha Roy is all set to release on December 24, 2021.
As a part of the promotion for Shyam Singha Roy, Nani and Sai Pallavi along with the producer interacted with the Tamil Media.
Nani spoke to Tamil Media about being inspired from the films of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan. He recalled his childhood days of watching a lot of Tamil Cinema. He shared about his special bonding and the connection he has with Tamil language and Tamil Cinema. He recalled his memories from the shooting days of Janda Pai Kapiraju and Yeto Vellipoyndi Manasu, the tamil version of Neethane En Ponvasantham in Chennai. He was attached to Tamil technicians and people from then itself. He shared his ideas of doing Tamil films alternatively with Telugu films. He tried a couple of films, Veppam and Aaha Kalyanam in Tamil but unfortunately the films did not work at the box office.
Nani admitted he wanted to take a break from Tamil cinema after the last two failures and made a lot of thinking to get back to Tamil with a strong subject that does not require any nativity. After listening to the story of Shyam Singha Roy, he decided to make and release the film in Tamil too.
Nani confirmed that the film would be the perfect relaunch for him to make a comeback to Tamil Cinema. And hereafter, he would try to release most of his films in Tamil too.
