“Paagal” Telugu Movie Review:
Story:
Prem (Vishwak Sen) is a boisterous young man who wants to find a woman who can love him like his mother. He proposes to every girl he meets, in the hopes of finding ‘the one’ for him. In an unlikely occurrence, Theera (Nivetha Pethuraj) proposes to him and the two fall for each other. Twist in the tale comes when Prem learns that she is engaged and her father (Murali Sharma) is not an easy man to deal with.
Performances:
Vishwak Sen is in his element as Prem. The actor is convincing as the loud and lively Prem who internally is only looking for the love he missed growing up. The movie is carried by Vishwak Sen from the beginning to the end. Since the movie is entirely centered around Prem, the female leads have minimal scope to shine. Nivetha Pethuraj who arrives in the second half performs well in what was given to her. Better writing and more screen time would have extracted a great performance from her.
Highlights:
Keeping Vishwak Sen aside, the movie runs on the quirky character and love story that the director definitely excelled in depicting. The music is both cheery and soulful adding the required tone to the movie.
Verdict:
While the first half of the movie keeps you engaged, the second half is a let down. Poor writing and giving in to the overused tropes in Telugu cinema in the second half can take away the freshness of the first half. Paagal is an interesting watch with equal parts entertainment and emotion. Head over to the theatres to watch Paagal.
