India is one of the most religious countries in the world. Being home to the only surviving polytheistic religion in the world, Indians have depicted their deities in many mediums, whether it be paintings, sculpture, dramas or movies. Since the inception of Telugu cinema in 1936, many actors have essayed the roles of gods in movies. They mesmerised the audience with their charisma and brought out the devotion in the audience. Telugu cinema has always loved depicting gods and goddesses on the big screen. Here are six from this generation’s actors who essayed the role of gods with ease and earned praises from the audience.
Balakrishna as Rama
Sri Rama Rajyam (2011) directed by the veteran director Bapu, starred Balakrishna as Lord Rama and Nayanthara as Sita. Sri Rama Rajyam was the remake of the movie, Lava Kusha (1964.) Balakrishna played Rama with such grace and poise that fans were impressed by his rendition of Rama.
Pawan Kalyan as Krishna
Pawan Kalyan played Lord Krishna in the movie, Gopala Gopala (2015.) Pawan Kalyan’s modern portrayal of Lord Krishna who enters the human realm, won the hearts of the audience.
Nagarjuna as Sai Baba
Nagarjuna essayed the role of Sai Baba in the K. Raghavendra Rao movie Shirdi Sai (2011.) Nagarjuna’s transformation for the movie and his dedication to the character was received well by the audience.
Chiranjeevi as Shiva
Chiranjeevi played the role of Lord Shiva in Sri Manjunatha (2001.) His portrayal instilled devotion and his dance sequence as Lord Shiva mesmerized the audience.
Jr.NTR as Rama
Jr. NTR as a child artist essayed the role of Rama in this Gunasekhar directorial Ramayanam (1996.) Ramayanam was made for kids and was a massive hit. Jr. NTR’s acting prowess was evident from a young age.
Nagarjuna as Krishna
Nagarjuna essayed the role of Lord Krishna who comes to the earth to rescue and guide his devotee in Krishnarjuna (2008.) Though the movie bombed at the box office, Nagarjuna’s acting as Lord Krishna was applauded.
