Director Gunasekhar is currently working on a mythological tale, titled Shaakuntalam. On the occasion of the New Year, Samantha Akkineni was announced as the lead actress of the film. As Shaakuntalam is set to be a woman centric film, Samantha Akkineni, who has proved her mettle with intriguing performances, will be headlining the entire film.
The shooting of the much awaited film, Shaakuntalam is all set to begin. The team of Shaakuntalam are currently erecting the sets and working on the music and costumes. According to the reports, Samantha Akkineni will be joining the sets on March 20, 2021.
While there have been numerous rumours about the cast of the film, the makers recently addressed the rumours and issued a statement. The statement released said, “We’d like to clarify that the casting process for the other characters in the film #Shaakuntalam is still going on. Request our friends in the media to not speculate on any particular names at this juncture. Thank you for your support (sic.)”
Shaakuntalam is an upcoming Telugu film, which is an epic love story of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala, the daughter of sage Vishwamitra and the heavenly Apsara Menaka. Mani Sharma, who has produced soothing songs in many Gunasekhar directorial movies like Okkadu, Arjun, Choodalani Vundi and Varudu, will be composing tunes for Shaakuntalam as well. Popular designer Neeta Lulla has been roped in to supervise the costumes. The film will be bankrolled by Neelima Guna under the Gunaa Teamworks banner.
