The lady Superstar of South, Nayanthara, who is known for women oriented films was recently in news for playing the lead role in the biopic of the legendary Queen Velu Nachiyar. Reportedly, filmmaker Susi Ganesan is planning a film on the life of Velu Nachiyar, and approached Nayanthara for the role and she immediately gave her a nod. However, it seems like these are just mere rumours as Nayanthara denied it.
Nayanthara, through her publicist, denied playing in the biopic of Velu Nachiyar as baseless rumours. The statement released by Nayanthara’s team read, “Certain news stating that Ms . Nayanthara is a part of the period film based on the life of Queen Velu Nachiyar has been circulating in some sections of the media. Ms Nayanthara categorically denies such a movie and we voice her opinion on the same to the media (sic.)”
Velu Nachiyar was the first Indian queen to wage a war against the East India Company in India. She also courageously busted the ammunition storage of the British. Rani Velu Nachiyar is known as Veeramangai, which literally translates to ‘brave lady’.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Nayanthara is currently shooting for a Malayalam film titled Nizhal, featuring Kunchacko Boban in the lead role. Nayanthara will be seen playing a lead role in her boyfriend Vignesh Shivan’s directorial venture Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal. The film also stars Vijay Sethupathy and Samantha Akkineni in the lead roles. She will be seen sharing the screen space with Rajinikanth in his upcoming film Annaatthe. The shooting of Annaatthe has temporarily postponed as 4 members of the crew tested positive for COVID-19.
