The Telugu film industry is known for the original and engaging content it churns out year after year.  Some of these movies went on to break national records, while some others got heads turning at Bollywood, which led to Hindi remakes.  The Telugu film industry is also not new to making remakes and even dubbing movies of other film industries.

  1. Khakee

The movie originally called as Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru in Tamil, was dubbed for Telugu audience as Khaakee.  The movie directed by H. Vinoth stars Karthi, Rakul Preet Singh and Abhimanyu Singh.  The movie is based on the Operation Bawaria in Tamil Nadu which was a police operation to contain organised crime, decoity, murders and robberies.  Karthi received a Filmfare Critics Award Best Actor-South for this film.

  1. Abhimanyudu

This Tamil movie was dubbed for the Telugu audience and starred Vishal, Arjun Sarja and Samantha Akkineni.  The movie was directed by P.S. Mithran and produced by Vishal himself. The performances of Vishal and Arjun Sarja earned high praise from critics.  The movie is about how an Army officer hunts down a hacker gang who steal money from his account.

  1. K.G.F: Chapter 1

K.G.F: Chapter 1 was originally made in Kannada and later dubbed in multiple languages, including Telugu.  This was one of the biggest hits of 2018 and starred Yash in the lead role. This movie was the first of a two part series and the 2nd part is in the making as of now.  K.G.F: Chapter 1 was directed by Prashanth Neel.  Great cinematography, acting, set design, screenplay, editing and background score—the movie had it all.  K.G.F: Chapter 1 is about the journey of an orphan kid from the streets of Mumbai to becoming India’s biggest gangster during the 1960s.

  1. Rangam

The Tamil movie Ko was dubbed in Telugu as Rangam.  The movie starred Jiiva, Piaa Bajpiee, Ajmal, Karthika Nair and Prakash Raj.  Rangam is about how a photojournalist witnesses a bank robbery by a group of Naxalites and manages to click pictures of them.  The rest of the story shows the sequence of events which follow the robbery. This movie won multiple awards for its music direction and stunts.

  1. Kanchana

This movie was originally made in Tamil and was a sequel to Muni.  Kanchana was the brainchild of Raghava Lawrence, who was the director, producer, storywriter and the lead actor of this movie.  Kanchana is about Raghava, a young man who is possessed by a spirit, which leads to all hell breaking loose.  The film was a commercial success during its theatrical run.

  1. Naa Peru Shiva

Naa Peru Shiva was originally made in Tamil as Naan Mahaan Alla.  This movie starred Karthi, Kajal Aggarwal, Jayaprakash and Soori and was directed by Suseenthiran.  This movie was based on a real life incident and had Shiva, a loving son and brother, as the lead character.  When his father is murdered, Shiva sets out to nab the culprits himself. The movie did well commercially in both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

  1. Awara

Tamil movie Paiyaa was dubbed in Telugu as Awara.  The film starred Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia and was directed by N. Linguswamy.  This movie is the story of two strangers who meet accidentally when the guy decides to help the lady to fend off gangsters who are after her.  His pursuit takes them to Mumbai, where the guy has a past score to settle. Awara became such a hit, it was remade in Hindi, Kannada and Bengali.

  1. Yuganiki Okkadu

Aayirathil Oruvan, a Tamil movie, was dubbed in Telugu as Yuganiki Okkadu.  This film starred Karthi, Reema Sen, Andrea Jeremiah and R. Parthiban.  Yuganiki Okkadu, directed by Selvaraghavan, was a fantasy adventure film inspired and loosely based on the decline of the Chola dynasty and the rise of the Pandya dynasty.  The Telugu dubbed version fared better at the box office than the original Tamil movie.

  1. Roja

Tamil movie Roja was a Mani Ratnam directorial and was dubbed in Telugu as Roja.  The movie starred Arvind Swami and Madhoo Shah (Madhubala) in lead roles and depicted the story of Rishi, a RAW intelligence officer stationed in Kashmir.  Rishi is kidnapped by terrorists in the midst of freeing their leader from the authorities. The rest of the movie shows how Rishi escapes from the terrorists.  A.R. Rahman made his debut as a music director with this movie and the songs of Roja are some of the best till date.

  1. Dalapathi

The original Tamil movie was titled Thalapathi.  It starred Rajinikanth and was directed by Mani Ratnam.  Dalapathi, the Telugu dubbed version, had an ensemble cast comprising Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Arvind Swami, Jaishankar, Amrish Puri, Shobana, Srividya, Bhanupriya and Geetha.  Ilaiyaraaja composed the music for this movie. Dalapathi follows the story of an orphan who fights against injustice in his locality and a collector who tries to put an end to his activities.  This movie was a huge hit at the box office.
