The latest Tollywood film to jump on the Coronavirus bandwagon is WHO — World Hazard Ordinance, which stars Rakshith of Palasa 1978 fame and deals with the theory behind how the virus first broke out.
Rakshith, who stars as the lead actor in the film, says, “WHO is a fictional scientific thriller which is inspired by a conspiracy theory on how Covid-19 first originated in a Chinese lab. How the virus breaks out in a small lab and how it exposes the entire world to it, the backstory behind it and how certain people failed to prevent its spread will be shown in the movie. It’s a very relatable story so I can’t wait to start shooting for it. However, since there will be overseas schedules as well, it will take some time before we can start the shoot(sic.)”
WHO is directed by famous director Vasu Pinnamaraju aka Dev Pinn, an award winning filmmaker who directed the internationally acclaimed short film I am Gonna Tell God Everything, is set to make his Tollywood debut with this film. In a welcome move, the Telangana Government decided to allow production works and shooting schedules for movies to resume. The decision came as a relief to the filmmakers who have been concerned about the reopening of the industry. Infact, a delegation of Tollywood big wigs led by Chiranjeevi, met the Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao to discuss the reopening of the movie industry. The delegation consisted of eminent actors, producers and directors among whom S.S. Rajamouli was one.
Rajamouli was one of the first directors to resume shooting works for his movie Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (RRR.) His plan was to do a trial shoot for two days with the lead actors Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, while following the safety guidelines laid down by the government. The plan was to check if shooting the movie was feasible with the new safety guidelines.
However, according to the latest reports Rajamouli is forced to cancel the two day shoot for RRR because of the sudden spike in the COVID-19 cases in Telangana State. Therefore Rajamouli decided to keep the health and safety of his team in mind and decided to cancel this trial shoot for RRR.
RRR has a star studded cast with actors from Bollywood and the U.K., as well. Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, Allison Doody and Ray Stevenson will be appearing in supporting roles for RRR. M.M. Keeravani is composing the music while DVV Entertainments is producing the movie. Ram Charan and Jr. NTR are the stars of the movie with Jr. NTR playing the role of Komaram Bheem and Ram Charan playing the role of Alluri Sitarama Raju.
Energetic Star Ram Pothineni, made a smashing debut in Tollywood with YVS Chowdary’s Devadasu and launched into the top class with the spectacular success of the film, Ready in 2008, starring Genelia D’Souza as the lead actress. The Sreenu Vaitla directorial Ready became a huge hit back then because of the mixture of comedy and family sentiments, which has connected well with the family audience. Devi Sri Prasad’s foot tapping tunes and the eye popping chemistry between Ram and Genelia, made the film to be the perfect entertainment even today.
As Ready completes 12 years of the release today, on June 19th, Ram Pothineni went all nostalgic and wrote a special message on twitter, “My first film for @SravanthiMovies Met my Bestie @geneliad Learnt so much from @SreenuVaitla garu @ThisIsDSP ’s magic A Brilliant team @konavenkat99 @Gopimohan to #Bhrami garu to #ChittiNaidu & My last film as a Teenager.. #12YearsForBBReady will always be spl. Love.. #RAPO(sic.)” The actor also terminated Ready as his last film as a teenager, Ram was 22 years old when this film was released. Besides mentioning the cast and crew, Ram also stated that he met his best friend Genelia through the film.
Director Sreenu Vaitla also remembered his film Ready as it completes 12 years today and wrote on Twitter, “Been 12 years for #Ready which still feels like yesterday . I will always cherish the wonderful times during the filming and I owe it to my energetic star @ramsayz, ever cute @geneliad, the team of @Gopimohan & @konavenkat99 for always believing in me(sic.)”
On the work front, Ram Pothineni will next be seen in Kishore Tirumala’s RED, which co stars Nivetha Pethuraj, Malvika Sharma, Amritha Aiyer, Sampath Raj and Vennela Kishore in crucial roles. It is believed the film is an official remake of the Tamil action thriller Thadam. RED was supposed to release on April 9, 2020, but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Malayalam writer director K.R. Sachidanandan, popularly known in the industry as Sachy, passed away on Thursday night. The filmmaker shot to fame for his blockbuster hit film Ayyappanum Koshiyum, starring Prithviraj and Biju Menon, which was released in February this year.
The 48 year old Sachy suffered a cardiac arrest and hypoxic brain damage. He was on ventilator support prior to his death for almost two days. On Thursday night, at Thrissur’s Jubilee Mission Hospital, Sachy took his last breath.
The Malayalam film industry is engulfed in grief as the news of Sachy’s demise surfaced. Actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salaam were among those who shared condolences on social media.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum, which was recently added to Amazon Prime, received rave reviews from non Malayalee audiences and is set to be remade in Telugu and Bollywood as well. According to the reports, Rana Daggubati and Ravi Teja are roped in to play the characters of Prithviraj and Biju Menon in Telugu. While, actor John Abraham has already bought the film’s Hindi remake rights.

Actor and politian Rajinikanth is one of the well known personalities of the Nation. On Thursday, the actor received a bomb threat call at his house which caused a lot of ruckus and left all his fans concerned for his safety.
An unknown person’s call landed at 108 ambulance control center at 10:30 A.M. The man claimed bombs were planted at Rajinikanth’s residence in Poes Garden and disconnected the call. Soon after the threat was received, a team of police officials and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad rushed to Rajinikanth’s house in Chennai. Later, the call turned out to be a hoax.
The police team thoroughly checked the security guard’s cabin and outside area of the house. The officials later declared it to be a hoax call and are searching for the prankster who made this call.
On the work front, Rajinikanth will be next seen on the big screen with Tamil film Annatthe, directed by Siruthai Siva’s.Annatthe is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. The film has an ensemble cast comprising of Rajinikanth, Meena, Kushboo, Nayanthara and Keerthy Suresh. Once the COVID 19 situation gets better and all the actors agree to resume shooting. The team is planning to travel to different parts of India, including Pune and Kolkata to complete the shooting schedule. Annaatthe is Rajinikanth’s 168th movie and will release on Pongal 2021.
Thriller is a genre that it needs to have an element of suspense at regular intervals in the narrative which can keep the viewer hooked. Penguin is one such movie which has plenty of those kinds of moments. This Keerthy Suresh-starrer is a dark thriller which keeps you hooked on until the end for the screenplay is such. Penguin has released directly on OTT giant Amazon Prime and is already garnering great attention from all around. Directed by debutante Eeshvar Karthic, Penguin is the story of a pregnant mother whose first child goes missing. Who did this and how she finds him is the skeleton of Penguin. The film has many unique elements to offer and is a treat to the eyes at many points. But the star of the show is Keerthy Suresh who shoulders the film and carries it with finesse. Here’s our review of Penguin which has now been released on Amazon Prime.
The Gist:
Rhythm’s 2-yr old son Ajay is kidnapped by a stranger who is seen sporting a Charlie Chaplin mask always. The unknown man is seen kidnapping kids in the town and killing them for reasons unknown. Rhythm is shaken because of the incident and cannot get over the fact that she has lost her son even after many years. Her marriage hits troubled waters and she gets separated from her husband, Raghu. After putting in magnanimous efforts to find her son, Rhythm moves on in life and marries Goutham again. However, Rhythm still has flashes of her son in her memories and often gets emotional about it. However, one fine day, Rhythm finds her son at the same place where he went missing but he seems to be in a state of shock. Ajay is now a 6-yr old kid who would not speak a word since he is shocked and shaken because of the incident. All seems fine until the Charlie Chaplin mask-claden man decides to stalk Rhythm’s family and her current husband. What happens after that forms the crux of the story in Penguin.
The High:
Without an iota of doubt, Keerthy Suresh is the show stealer in Penguin. With a balanced and controlled performance, the Mahanati actress pulls off the role of a mother with ease and delivers a thumping performance. Watch out for the emotional scenes in Penguin and she will amaze you each time. Supporting her, the rest of the cast, which includes actors Linga and Adhidev, too chip in with a decent performance but the attention keeps shifting towards the lead actress. A thriller, besides a gripping story, needs herculean support in the form of background score and visual appeal. Santosh Narayanan proves yet again why he is the most sought-after technician in South cinema. The sounds are scary, intense and at the same time send chills down the spine. It cannot get better than this. Cinematographer Kharthik Palani’s work behind the camera is soothing and is a treat to the eyes. The story of Penguin is set in the backdrop of the picturesque town Ooty and Kharthik captures the soul of the hill station town in his work. The color tones are in sync with the genre and don’t go overboard. The visuals in forest scenes are quite impactful and will definitely make you Google his work.

Speaking about the story, debutante Eeshvar Karthic pens a gripping story which is intense and scary too. In these kinds of genres, the screenplay plays a prime role and Eeshvar does a brilliant job with Penguin. While watching, as you feel that this may be the end of a certain sequence, Eeshvar throws another puzzle with a tinge of thrill towards you. That makes watching Penguin a brilliant and gripping experience.
The Low:
There is Keerthy with a brilliant performance and then there is a gripping story in Penguin. But you still feel there is something missing. It is the pace at which the story unfolds. There are few moments when you do feel that it is getting a bit long. Penguin, in Telugu, is a dubbed version from Tamil and the lip sync seems a bit off at places. However, the performances and the thrills do make you overlook these points.
Verdict:
Penguin is a must watch for 2 reasons, Keerthy’s brilliant portrayal and the gripping story. There is quite a heavy twist at the end, and we are NOT giving out spoilers. We loved watching Penguin and we urge you all to watch it as well since it is out now on the OTT giant Amazon Prime.
While Vikram is currently busy with his upcoming film Cobra, directed by Ajay Ganamuthu, the actor has already signed his next film with ace director Karthik Subbaraj, tentatively titled as Chiyaan 60. This film is quite special for Vikram because he will be sharing the screen space with his son Dhruv, for the first time.
The first poster of Chiyaan 60 created a lot of buzz on social media for its intriguing first look and lovely chemistry between the father and son duo. Now the latest buzz is the movie has a high chance of being officially titled as Thiravukol Mandiravadhi. This title has been mentioned on the director’s Wikipedia page and now fans can’t keep calm as the title of the movie goes viral on social media. However, an official confirmation about the same hasn’t been made by the makers of the movie for now.
In a recent interview, Karthik revealed how he conceived the idea to cast Vikram and Dhruv together in Chiyaan 60. The director said Dhruv and Vikram were already on his mind for the role while coming up with the script. It was only in recent times that he got the idea and pitched it to Vikram. The actor liked the script and that’s how it started. However, Karthik also mentioned the script is still in the initial stage and he is still working on it.
Chiyaan 60 is touted to be a gangster flick and will have music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. This film is yet again being bankrolled by Lalit Kumar under the banner Seven Screen Studio who is also producing Vikram’s Cobra.
