Vidya Balan is an award-winning Indian actress who predominantly works in Hindi cinema. Being an aspired film buff, Vidya started her career as an actress at very young age. Vidya Balan’s acting career started with the popular sitcom of the 90s Hum Paanch and later appeared in few music videos and ad commercials but a big break in films was still alluring her.
Vidya has to go through the toughest phase to get film offers as the films she signed got shelved without any reasons. She first signed a Malayalam film opposite to Mohanlal, but the movie was shelved for unknown reasons and all the projects she signed went on to other actresses.
With no hopes in Malayalam, she shifted her focus to Tamil and signed Madhavan’s Run but after the first schedule, she was replaced by Meera Jasmine.
After several unsuccessful attempts, finally, Vidya made her Screen debut with Bengali film Bhalo Theko which led her to foray into India’s biggest movie industry Bollywood with Parineeta with Sanjay Dutt and Sail Ali Khan as the male leads. Her role in the movie garnered huge praises from audience and critics alike followed by highly successful Lage Raho Munna Bhai, a sequel to Munnabhai MBBS.
After playing the homely actress in many of her movies, Vidya Balan took the entire nation by surprise by reprising the role of a nautch dancer which is loosely life of yesteryears sexy siren of the South “Silk Smitha” in The Dirty Picture. The movie opened to great critical acclaim and Vidya’s performance has been praised to the Skies citing the best performance of her to date winning Vidya a second Filmfare Award, a third consecutive Screen Award, and a National Film Award for Best Actress.
