Veturi Sundararama Murthy

    Veturi Sundararama Murthy (29 January 1936 – 22 May 2010) was a renowned Telugu movie lyricist who has penned hundred of songs and the National award winning song “Raalipoye Puvva” from “Mathruevobhava” movie. However, the he returned the awards as Telugu was not given the ancient language status.

    Veturi was a journalist who worked for “Andhra Patrika” and “Andhra Prabha” before turning into a lyricist. Veturi was offered role by veteran aator Chittoor V Nagiah for the film “Naa Illu”, but he rejected the role softly saying he doesn’t fit into acting and writing is his forte.

    Veturi made debut as a lyricist with “O Seethakatha” directed by K Vishwanath. However, the surge began after NTR- K Raghavendra Rao’s “Adavi Ramudu” has become a stupendous hit amassing all the previous box-office records and the album turned out to be the best album in the years to come. Veturi continued to dominate and provided a wide range of lyrics from romantic to classical to pathos.

    Some of the memorable movies of Veturi include “Siri Siri Muvva”, “Shankarabharanam”, “Anveshana”, “Mathrudevobhava”, “Godavari”, “Geethanjali”, “Jagadeka Veerud Athiloka Sundari” and “Sitara”.
