Suriya (Saravanan)

Suriya (born as Saravanan Sivakumar) is an Indian actor who primarily works in Tamil Cinema. Suriya is the eldest son of former Tamil Hero Sivakumar. Despite hailing from the family of actors, acting hasn’t been Suriya’s choice rather he wanted to be in business and worked in a garment store for a while.

The director Vasanth approached him for the role in “Aasai”, but he rejected citing the reason he is not interested in acting and the offer went to Ajith. Two years later, the same director again approached Suriya for the role of a second lead in “Nerrukku Ner” along side Vijay being the first lead and accepted it on his father’s insistence.

The film was produced by Mani Ratnam and he renamed Saravanan to Suriya. During the initial years, he used to play the second-fiddle to other heroes before making it big with “Nanda” directed by Bala which won him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for the Best Actor. The actual stardom began with Gautham Menon’s “Kaakha Kaakha” and it’s reverberated success made Suriya the star hero.

Suriya’s stardom rose to new peaks with Murugadoss’s “Ghajini” in which he plays the role of short-time memory loss patient. The movie became one of the biggest grosser of Tamil Cinema in that year and Suriya’s riveted performance received lavish praises from critics and audience alike. The actor has spread his fan base all across the Country through his dubbed films. He is married to once on-screen pair Jyothik and the couple have two kids. His younger brother Karhi is also a famous actor.
