Srihari (15-08-1964 – 09-10-2013) was an Indian actor who predominantly worked in Telugu Cinema. The actor started the career as side-kick to the villains, gradually turned into a villain, later-turned hero and shifted to character roles.

Srihari was born in a middle-class family and used to work in the mechanic shed along with his brothers while studying. He along with his brothers used to sleep in the same shed that is opposite to “Shobana” theater, Balanagar, Hyderabad. As Srihari’s family used to supply milk to the theater, the staff got closer to them and used to watch movies quite often. The larger than life characters and adulation of the fans left a deep impact on Srihari at a very early age and decided to be a hero and wished to see his cut-out in the same theater. During his college days, Srihari was a gymnast.

He was inspired by martial arts icon Bruce Lee, as his gymnastic feats that achieved him more fame than his martial arts and to create a separate identity for himself, Srihari trained himself in gymnastics and represented the national team. While he was still pursuing his studies, he got few government job offers, but he could not grab them due to some unavoidable reasons. As his main focus was in movies, the actor moved to Chennai and got chance to work under the legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao for Brahmanaidu (1986) in an antagonist role, though was reluctant initially for an antagonist role, as he was aspiring to become a hero, he accepted with the confidence that he would be introduced as hero very soon.

Post Brahmanaidu, Srihari’s performance, and his spring-like body movements were well recognized and started getting offers, but he denied as he was keen to become a hero and was along with Dasari Narayana Rao for few years with the hope of turning hero under his direction. Actor R Narayanamurthy and even heroes like Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu who has donned antagonist roles before turning heroes had given him the advice to get himself established as an actor first and then can later turn hero.

Upon their advice, Srihari has given a nod for antagonist roles and earned a good name for himself in no time and stole the limelight with his powerful acting. After establishing himself as a proven actor, Srihari’s dream of becoming a hero came true in 1999 in the form of Police movie and the actor who once dreamt of seeing his cut-out in the same theater where he used to watch movie had made it real. After donning the roles of a hero for few years, Srihari turned the most sought-after character artist. Srihari got married to Shanti, a popular dancer during the 90s in 1996 and the couple had 2 sons and a daughter. But, they lost the daughter and in her memory, the couple had opened Akshara Foundation to help the poor and needy, adopted 4 villages near to Medchal. While shooting for R Rajkumar, a Bollywood movie, Srihari was rushed to hospital after the actor felt uneasy with giddiness. But, sadly the actor could not survive ailing to liver problems and gasped his last breath on 9th October 2013.
