SP Balasubramaniam

SP Balasurbrahmanyam aka Sripati Panditharadhyula Balasubrahmanyam who goes with the sobriquet “Ganagandharvudu” (God of singing) is an Indian Playback singer who has sung over 40,000 songs, achieved an indomitable task and holds the Guinness Record for the highest number of songs sung by a male singer.

Being born in a family of artists, the love for music has imbibed in him naturally. His father SP Sambamurthy was a famous Harikatha artist in Nellore.

During his Engineering days, Balasubrahmanyam has developed the strong penchant for music and has participated in many singing competitions and has won several awards, which eventually led to quit his Engineering and take up singing as the full-time profession.

SPB made his debut as a playback singer with Padmanabham’s Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna in 1966 and has been enthralling the audience across generations with his mellifluous voice for the 4 decades, reached the transcendent levels in the art of music leaving his legion of fans in wonderment. In his 4 decades long career as a singer, SPB has rendered many memorable songs and was reaped with 6 National Awards for Best Male Singer and 25 State Nandi Awards. His younger sister SP Sailaja is a renowned singer and his brother-in-law Subhalekha Sudhakar is a famous artist.

SPB’s cousin K Vishwanath is a highly revered director in Telugu Cinema. Balasubramaniam’s son SP Charan is a well-noted singer in Telugu and Tamil cinema.
