Savitri

Savitri (6th December 1933 – 26th December 1981) was Indian actress, director and producer who predominantly worked in Telugu and Tamil Cinema. She is regarded as the finest female artist of all times in the Indian Cinema and was revered as “Mahanati” (greatest actress). Savitri had the most expressive eyes who could enact any role with great ease and hardly there was any actress who can outclasses her in acting. Many renowned film personalities have written anecdotes on the legendary actress.

Savitri made her movie debut with Samsaram in a small role followed by a dancing number in Pathala Bhairavi and one more small role in Pelli Choosi Choodu. Soon, her talent was recognized as the potential artist and started bagging the offers. Her first commercial break was with the all-time classic Devadasu opposite to the legendary ANR and the pair in the later years have become the best on-screen pair in Telugu.

Later, Savitri forayed to Tamil Industry and had tasted tremendous success there was as well pairing opposite to bigwigs like MGR, Shivaji Ganeshan and Geminin Ganeshan. Later, she got married to her co-star Gemini Ganeshan and the couple had a son and a daughter. Their marriage ended in a strained relationship and her personal life has taken a dramatic turn and the once reigning queen had to go through the most pitiful last days. The legendary actress Savitri lasted her breath on 26th December 1981 after being in the coma for several months.
