SS Thaman

SS Thaman (born as Ghantasala Sai Srinivas Thaman Shiva Kumar on 16th November 1983) is a leading music composer in Telugu and Tamil Cinema. Thaman’s grandfather Ghantasala Balaramayya was renowned producer in Telugu Cinema who introduced the legendary ANR to films with Seetharama Jananam movie. Thaman’s family is of musicians, his father Ghantasala Siva Kumar was drummer under music director Chakravarthy and mother Savitri is a singer.

After the demise of his father at the age of 13, Thaman had to discontinue his studies and joined as rhythm pads player under G Anand and later worked under the tutelage of Raj-Koti, MM Keeravani and Manisharma for several years. While working as an assistant, he got a chance to play one of the male leads in Shankar’s movie Boys along with Siddharth and Genelia in 2004. Later, he gained prominence as music director with Ravi Teja’s blockbuster hit Kick in 2009. Sooner than later, he rose to stardom and has worked with all the top heroes in Tollywood and completed 50 films as music composer in just 5 years. Thaman’s most noted films include Kick, Race Gurram, Dookudu, Ragada, Kick2 and Aagadu. Thaman’s wife Sri Vardhini is a famous singer. The musician has won a film fare and 3 SIIMA Awards.
