Madhavan R (Ranganathan Balaji Madhavan)

R Madhavan (Ranganathan Balaji Madhavan) is an Indian actor, TV host who primarily works in Tamil Cinema.

Madhavan is born to a Tamil speaking family and was raised in Jamshedpur, Bihar due to his father’s job in Tata Steel Industries. Madhavan started his career as a model in 1996 and first appeared in Santosh Sivan’s Sandal Talc advertisement and was recommended to Mani Ratnam for the screen test for “Iruvar”, but Maniratnam felt he was too young for the role and missed the offer.

With the film career failing to take off, Madhavan ventured into the small screen and appeared in few TV serials “Yule Love Stories”, “Banegi Apni Baat”, “Ghar Jamai”, “Tol Mol Ke Bol” and “Saaya” with which his popularity has increased which eventually led to his entry into films with “Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi” in an uncredited role. After doing few forgettable movies, Madhavan made a dream comeback with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil romantic flick “Alaipayuthey” which got dubbed in Telugu as “Sakhi”. The movie became a blockbuster hit earning positive reviews from the critics making Madhavan, the heartthrob among the youth.

He further featured in Gautham Menon’s debut romantic super hit“Minnale” that got dubbed in Telugu as “Cheli” and remade in Hindi as “Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein”. Soon, Madhavan has become the household name in the Country which got him the Pan-India appeal. He had featured in many super hit movies like “Tanu Weds Manu”, “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” and “3 Idiots”. Madhavan’s stellar performance of a rugged villain in Mani Ratnam’s “Yvua” fetched him the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor.
