P Suseela

P Suseela (Pulapaka Suseela) is a famous Indian singer who with her euphonious voice has been mesmerizing the film fraternity for the past 6 decades. Suseela was the first female singer to win the National Award and won it 4 times.

Born to a music loving family, Suseela nurtured in classical music at a very young age and started her career as a singer for All India Radio (AIR). In the year 1950, Pendyala Nageshwara Rao was looking for fresh voices and approached All India Radio. The AIR had sent 5 songs of different singers and Sueela’s voice was selected.

Suseela made her debut as a movie playback singer with Tamil film “Petra Thai” and Telugu with “Kanna Thalli”. Though it wasn’t easy to make her mark being a novice in the industry, Suseela slowly grew as an undisputed lead singer in no time and her legacy continued.
