Mohan Babu (Bhaktavatsalam Naidu)

Mohan Babu (born as Manchu Bhaktavatsalam Naidu) is an Indian film actor, the producer who predominantly worked in Telugu Cinema. Mohan Babu is born to Narayana Swamy and Lakshmamma. His father was a School teacher and wanted Mohan Babu to pursue higher education. Though Mohan Babu was highly influenced by movies. Mohan Babu completed his formal education and worked as Physical Trainer for some time.

However, his relentless passion towards movies made him resign the job and move to Chennai to try his luck in Movies. After being trained in the film school, Mohan Babu has gone through several hardships to bag an offer until Dasari Narayana Rao offered him the role of a reformed villain in “Swargam Narakam” in 1975 and rechristened from Bhaktavatasalam Naidu to Mohan Babu. Within no time, Mohan Babu gained immense popularity with his distinct dialogue delivery and diction and offers continued to flood. He became the prominent actor in negative roles in no time apart from playing leading roles in few movies during the 70s and 80s.

Mohan Babu’s ascension towards stardom started in the early 90s, and turned full-time hero and delivered back to back blockbusters like Alludugaru, Assembly Rowdy, Allari Mogudu, Major Chandrakanth, Brahma, and Pedarayudu. He established his owner banner “Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures” in 1982 and has produced many super hit movies under his banner.

Being an ardent fan of the legendary actor and former chief minister NT Rama Rao, Mohan Babu was associated with Telugu Desam Party. He was nominated as Rajyasabha member in 1995 and was also the member of Human Resources Department from 1996-1997 during his tenure in Rajya Sabha. Mohan Babu’s daughter Lakshmi is a movie actress, TV presenter and producer and his sons Vishnu and Manoj are leading actors in Tollywood. Apart from being the producer, Mohan Babu established the “Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust” in 1993. In his illustrious career, Mohan Babu was reverred with several awards and the honorary “Padmashri”, the 4th highest civilian award. The legendary was honored with “Doctorate” by the University of California.
