Kantha Rao

Kantha Rao (born as Tadepalli Lakshmi Kantha Rao) was the most loved folk heroes of Telugu Cinema. He was the swaggering prince of the Telugu folk-lores during the 50s and 60s and ruled the Telugu Cinema for close to 2 decades with an unparalleled success. His popularity grew in Tamil Cinema as well through his dubbed movies and was fondly called as Andhra MGR.

With the passion towards the world of Cinema, Kantha Rao moved to Chennai (then Madras) in pursuit of his dream. His short stint with the Surabhi Nataka Samajam helped him to fetch a small role in HM Reddy’s Nirdhoshi, the same film-maker introduced Kantha Rao as the Hero in Prathigna and the rest is history.

His association with Vitalacharya, the virtuoso of folklore genres had resulted in many super hits making Kantha Rao, one of the busiest actors of his time and rode the Telugu folk Cinema like a colossus. Despite, being one of the finest actors and leading actors of all-time, Kantha Rao has to adjust with some inconsequential roles in movies and Television during his twilight years.
