Jayaprada (born as Lalitha Rani) is a veteran Indian actress and former politician.
A the perfect combination of beauty and talent, Jayaprada dominated the Hindi and South Cinema during the 80s era along with her on-screen rival Sridevi.
Jaya Prada was a trained dancer and despite being her father being a film financier, films were never a choice of Jayaprada during her teens. At one of her School functions, her dance performance was noticed by one of the filmmakers and was offered a small role in “Bhoomikosam” movie.
Though she was reluctant initially, lapped up the offer upon their parents request and slowly offers started plunging in. She got the major breakthrough with K Balachander’s “Anthuleni Katha” and K Vishwanath’s “Siri Siri Muvva” which paved her way to stardom and her performance got rave reviews. After a successful sting in the South, Jaya Prada forayed into the Bollywood and in no time, she became the leading lady in Bollywood too.
After taking a break from films, Jayaprada stepped into Politics and served as Rajyasabha Member on behalf of Telugu Desam Party and later served as Member of Parliament on behalf of Samajwadi Party from Rampur Constituency.
