Goundamani (born as Subramani Karuppaiya) is a famous Indian actor better known for his comic and supporting characters. Goundamani began his career as a theater artist and his on the spot counter to the co-artists garnered him the stage name “Counter Mani” which eventually become Goundamani.
After appearing in uncredited roles in movies like Raman Ethanai Ramanadi, Thenum Paalum, and Uzhaikkum Karangal, Goundamani appeared in a credited role in Bharathiraja’s 16 Vayathinile which is said to be his debut film.
Later in the years, he rose to an unprecedented stardom as a comedian and character artist. Goundamani co-starred with another comedian Senthil in many movies and their combo is described as the best comic pair in Tamil cinema and was described as “Tamil cinema’s Laurel and Hardy”. Goundamani is quite popular in Telugu as well through his dubbed movies like Gentleman, Manmadha, Baba, Bharateeyudu and Jai Hind.
