Girish Karnad

Girish Karnad is a famous actor, director, producer and playwriter who predominantly works in The South cinema. As a youngster, Girish Karnad was highly influenced by the “Yakshagana” and the theater in their village which forced him to make up his mind to explore its depth. After completing his graduation, Girish Karnad moved to England to pursue his masters in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

After his return, to India, Karnand worked for Oxford University Press for few years and quit the job to become a full-time writer. Girish Karnad started his career as a playwriter with “Yayati” in Kannada based on a character in the epic “Mahabharata” and the play has won him the “Mysore Sate Award”. The quintessential writer has been honored with the “Jnanapeeth”, the Country’s highest literary recognition for his valuable contributions to the modern Indian drama and a long list of awards along with the prestigious “Doctorate”.

His second play “Tughlaq”, based on the life history of the Delhi Sultan Muhamadbeen Tughlak established Karnad as the most promising play writers in the Country. Girish Karnad made his acting debut with Kannada movie “Samskara” and appeared in some of the most popular movies like “Ananda Bhairavi”, “Rakshakudu”, “Shankardada MBBS”, “Premikudu”, “Komaram Puli” and “Dharma Chakram”.
