Sir, aka Vaathi in Tamil, is a very exciting film for the Telugu audience, as it marks the first direct Telugu film for Dhanush, the globally acclaimed Tamil actor. We all know that Dhanush has a huge fan base in the Telugu states since Raghuvaran B.Tech. That craze has been multiplied to date, and finally today is a celebration for the Telugu Dhanush fans in theatres with the film Sir, which was written and directed by the just three-film-old director Venky Atluri under Sithara Entertainments’ production. Sir is totally Dhanush’s show, where the mass actor tries to tell a tale in which education has the biggest importance and impact. Read our review of Sir (Vaathi) here.
Sir Movie Story:
Tripathi (Samuthirakani) runs a top-rated private school in the state under the name Tripathi Educational Institute. Bala Gangadhar Tilak (Dhanush), a junior Maths lecturer at Tripathi educational institute, is transferred to a local school in a small village called Siripuram. Tripathi has his own master plan behind this. Balu opposes this when he learns Tripathi’s true intentions. What is Tripathi’s plan? How does Balu fight this? These elements form the rest of the narrative of Sir.
Appreciation For Venky Atluri:
Venky Atluri has so far made three rom-coms in his career. Tholi Prema, Mr. Majnu, and Rang De. All these movies are totally commercial and come from similar templates of love stories. Venky Atluri himself revealed that many complained about him for making similar stories only in the rom-com genre. But this time, Venky Atluri changes his path. Though he relies on commercial construction, the plot and theme are totally different and even serious. “Education” is always one of the most widely discussed topics. Setting the film Sir in the 1990s and discussing education privatization on a serious note with a strong message for the audience to take away is a brilliant move by Venky Atluri that boosts his career and also makes a significant contribution to Dhanush’s grand debut in Telugu cinema.

Sir Telugu Movie Review:
Sir has a perfect balance of entertainment and emotion. The first half of the film looks regular, with all the commercial aspects falling into place. Dhanush runs the show as usual, even though the narrative is flat. Samyuktha’s love story with Dhanush and Hyper Aadi’s comedy is good. Venky Atluri saved everything for the second half, and it stands as a proper drama with emotions. The second half of the film questions the education system and also quotes its importance. Dhanush is exceptional in these episodes. Venky Atluri’s dialogues are thought-provoking.
Sir marks Dhanush’s launch into Telugu cinema, and it is a perfect pick by the actor. As we all know, Dhanush could easily get under the skin of any character, be it natural, original, simple, raw, intense, or emotional. The actor once again repeats his trademark skills to justify Bala Gangadhar Tilak. Though the first half has the regular dose of Dhanush we have known all these days, the second half is purely a splendid time to watch Dhanush in emotional episodes. There is no exaggeration in saying that Dhanush carried the film to a higher elevation with a superlative performance.
Samyuktha Menon is definitely a good choice as the female lead. She looks very homely and beautiful on screen. She also delivers a decent performance. Samyuktha shares good chemistry with Dhanush.
Sai Kumar and Samuthirakani did their jobs perfectly in their given roles. This is a cakewalk for them compared to their experience. Hyper Aadi also did a good job with comedy.
GV Prakash Kumar has proven his worth with the album already. Mastaaru Mastaaru, which was a YouTube hit with its lyrical version, is also very neat and pleasant in theaters. The background score is also very impressive and stands as an asset to the film on the technical side.
Yuvaraj’s cinematography is too good. The rest of the technical aspects are okay.
Sir focuses completely on a major social issue that needs to be addressed. Of course, Venky Atluri might have relied on a few commercial elements in the narrative to satisfy the general public, but the message was delivered strongly and perfectly. Sir marks a grand launch for Dhanush to the Telugu cinema with a proper content-driven film.
