K Viswanath is a legendary Telugu film director who paved the way for Telugu films to have national pride. The director has crossed the age of 90 already and is surviving with no ease, as we all know. Today, unfortunately, the world has lost him. Yes, K Viswanath passed away at midnight on Thursday, February 2, the same day one of his iconic movies, Sankarabharanam, was released four decades ago, in 1979.
Kasinadhuni Viswanath was suffering from an age-related illness for the last few days. He was admitted to a private hospital by his family members and was taken care of there by the doctors. But as age could not escape death, he took his last breath late last night in the hospital itself. Later, the family members moved his mortal remains to his residence in Jubilee Hills.
Viswanath was a pan-Indian director even before the trend started in the modern era. He brought national recognition and respect to Telugu cinema with his films Sankarabharanam, Sagarasangamam, Swathi Muthyam, Aapadbandhavudu, Swayamkrushi, Swarnakamalam, and many more. His film Swathi Muthyam was even submitted for the Oscars as the best foreign language film. Viswanath bagged five national awards. He was even awarded Dada Saheb Phalke, the highest respect given in Indian cinema.
Viswanath’s demise is like losing a guide and a guru for Indian cinema. The entire Indian film fraternity mourns his loss. Telugu FilmNagar sends its condolences to his family, in fact, his family is more than 120 crores. May his soul rest in peace.
