Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known by his stage name KK, left this world soon after finishing his concert in Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha auditorium on Tuesday, 31st May 2022. On the way back to his hotel after his performance, he complained of feeling unwell and suffered cardiac arrest. The entire music and film fraternity is shattered by this shocking news. It is indeed a piece of news that is very difficult to digest. Kolkata police have registered a case of ‘unnatural death’ as a protocol, and the case will soon be investigated. West Bengal’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee had extended support to the singer’s family.
The singer had extremely humble beginnings and began his career with advertisement jingles. Later he made his film debut with AR Rahman’s soundtrack, “Kalluri Saaley” and “Hello Dr.” from Kadir’s Kadhal Desam. His songs were an integral part of the childhood of 90’s kids. Fans are mourning his death, claiming that a part of their childhood had been taken from them. His popular songs like ‘Pyaar ke pal’ and ‘Yaaron’ had been on the top of the charts during the farewells of the kids of the 90’s era. He has been known as a healer of broken hearts for an entire generation. The singer had a remarkable journey not only in Bollywood but also in the regional languages. He had recorded songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, and Bengali, among other languages.
Actors from the Telugu film industry, including Megastar Chiranjeevi, expressed their sorrow over his death and shared the connection he had with the singer. He wrote on his Twitter handle, “Heartbroken at the shocking demise of KK. Gone too soon! A fabulous singer and a great soul. He sang ‘Daayi Daayi Daama’ from ‘Indra’ for me. My heartfelt condolences to his family & near and dear ones. May his soul rest in peace! #RIPKK”.

The music industry suffers an irreplaceable loss with the KK’s tragic demise. The industry had lost a legend and iconic singer. But, no matter what, KK will forever live in the hearts of his fans through his soulful songs. Rest in Peace LEGEND!!
