Jayamma Panchayathi is a beautiful village drama that got immense response and love from the Telugu audiences. The film was released on 6th May. Jayamma Panchayathi is the comeback film for Suma Kanakala after almost a decade. The film stood as a super hit at the box office. The Telugu audiences are very much connected to the way the director Vijay Kumar exposed the atmosphere, characters, and issues in the villages. These elements made the film an interesting one. Jayamma Panchayathi paved a way for many more such village dramas to come in Tollywood, as stated by Tollywood’s top director Sukumar. Is Jayamma Panchayathi a beginning for cultural village dramas in Tollywood?
There were many soulful village dramas in Tollywood in the past, including ℅ Kancharapalem, Raja Vaaru Rani Garu, Cinema Bandi, and many others. All those films got very good responses from the audience. The films had very interesting storylines, but none of them dealt with the cultures and deeply exposed them. But the director Vijay Kumar did that for the Jayamma Panchayathi movie. He clearly projected the culture and the characters’ innocence in the remote village he picked in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. The culture of “eedulu” in north Andhra Pradesh is exposed very well. Vijay also addressed the issues and sufferings of the north Andhra people. Dalit atrocities, Caste hierarchies, ad medical burdens are addressed in a great way. Above all, Vijay perfectly wrote the character Jayamma and Suma Kanakala portrayed it at her best. Kudos to Suma for accepting such a story and Vijay for attempting the story.
From here on, many more cultural village dramas will be coming from Tollywood and the entire credit goes to Jayamma Panchayathi for the initiation. Yes, Jayamma Panchayathi is the beginning of cultural village dramas in Tollywood.
