The film Abbayi Garu has an interesting history. The film was actually remade from the original Tamil film Enga Chinna Rasa. This Tamil film was also an inspiration from a Kannada novel titled Ardhaangi. The novel was adapted and made as a film in Kannada again titled Mallammana Pavaada. Meanwhile, Enga Chinna Rasa was remade into Hindi as Beta and Kannada as Annayya. Abbayi Garu was also remade into Tamil and Kannada. So even after many adaptations and remakes, Abbayi Garu was still a blockbuster not only in Telugu but the other languages too.
Besides Venkatesh and Meena being the lead pair, the film also has some great artists including Nutan Prasad, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Babu Mohan and Brahmanandam.
