In a career spanning 33 years, he appeared in 170 feature films, and has received four Filmfare Awards and seven state Nandi Awards. He also came across many highs and lows of life. But his recent gesture inspired not only his co-stars but everyone in the society. He is none other than Jagapathi Babu, who pledged his organs and became a real hero.
It is customary in Telugu States to celebrate Shashtiabdha Poorthi or Shashti Poorti on completion of 60 years of age, as the sixtieth year in one’s life is a significant milestone in human life. But Tollywood actor Jagapathi Babu took a new path, which has made his 60th birth anniversary more purposeful and meaningful. He pledged his organs at a private hospital in Hyderabad on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The actor signed the pledge to donate organs that could be used to save the lives of others. Jagapathi Babu also encouraged more friends and fans to pledge their organs for donation, due to which above 100 people on the spot pledged their organs too.
Speaking on the occasion, Jagapathi Babu said, “Every life, especially those of humans, must have a meaning to it. I believe, if we can give something back to this society, our life will have the right meaning. Helping others see, breath, survive, after our demise is certainly a boon. And I would request all my friends and fans to consider the thought of pledging their organs to help millions of people whose lives otherwise are starved in darkness and ill health.”
Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary and Dr G Swarnalatha, incharge of Jeevandan, a transplantation programme of Telangana government and legend in cardiology, Dr. Bollineni Bhaskar Rao were also present at the event.
