Due to the pandemic scare, all the big budget Telugu films including RRR and Radhe Shyam got postponed and quit from the pongal race. Also the other films Sarkaru Vaari Paata and Bheemla Nayak got postponed to create a healthy competition in the industry for Pongal. Now the only big film left for the audience to celebrate the cinema in theatres for the festival is Bangarraju.
Bangarraju is a supernatural drama directed by Kalyan Krishna Kurasala. The film is a prequel to the blockbuster Soggade Chinni Nayana which was released in 2016. Bangarraju was produced by Akkineni Nagarjuna under the banner of Annapurna Studios along with Zee Studios. The film stars Akkineni Nagarjuna, Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, Ramya Krishnan and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles. Anup Rubens composed the music for the film. Satyanand wrote the screenplay.
It was evident from the sources and trailer of the film that Bangarraju deals with the supernatural forces and Naga Chaitanya would be seen as Chinna Bangarraju, the character showing the early days of Bangarraju as a youngster. This sounds interesting to the audience and they are very excited to see both Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya together on the big screen.
The principal photography of Bangarraju began on 25th August, 2021 and the film unit wrapped up the shoot on 23rd December, 2021. The film was made in just 120 days. The makers of the film sped up the things right from the beginning of the shoot keeping Pongal in mind for the release of the film. Earlier, they had a thought of releasing the film on 15th January, 2022. The makers did not make it official due to various factors including the completion of the post production in time and the pandemic scare. Finally there was an official announcement from the makers of the film yesterday that Bangarraju is going to release on 14th January for Pongal to provide wholesome entertainment to the audience if the situations are under control.
