Samantha Akkineni is one of the most established and prominent actresses in South Indian cinema. She made a spectacular Bollywood debut as Raji with the second season of the popular web series The Family Man. Her acting in the series was critically acclaimed and Samantha recently won an award for her performance.
Talking to Film Companion, Samantha shared “The role in Shaakuntalam is my dream role. My favourite movies growing up were Disney movies. I believed in fairy tales, magic, princes and princesses. I have played realistic characters all this time and I have always wanted to play a princess. Shaakuntalam is the most beautiful I have ever looked on screen (sic.)”
When asked about the speculations of her being in Prabhas and Nag Ashwin’s film and a movie with Pawan Kalyan, she said “I am not a part of these movies. Actually, I plan on taking a break from work for a few months. As of now, I have not signed anything new (sic.)” Explaining the reason for taking a break “In 11 years, I have not taken a break. Actors do need some time off. Otherwise I am scared that, maybe, I am burned out (sic.)”
Shaakuntalam is a mythological epic love story directed by Gunasekhar and stars Samantha and Dev Mohan in the lead roles. The movie is jointly bankrolled by Gunaa Teamworks and Sri Venkateswara Creations.
