Once in a while audiences get to experience one of a kind and superior cinematic experiences. Such movies are revered as trailblazers and pave the way for many such movies. One such movie is the Rajamouli directorial Eega.
On this day, 9 years ago Eega hit the theatres and became a phenomenal success. Eega starred Nani, Samantha and Kiccha Sudeep in the main roles. However, the main protagonist was the animated fly. Eega revolves around the life of a fly, which was a human in its past life. The fly is determined to protect his love Bindu (Samantha) from the cruel Sudeep, whom he could not as a human. The story follows the extraordinary journey of a meagre being like a fly with a human soul and its attempts to save his love. Nani, while having a limited screen time, shined in his role as a helpless lover. Kiccha Sudeep, being an established actor in the Kannada film industry, made his debut in Telugu cinema and won applause for his performance as the villain. Samantha’s portrayal as the beautiful and innocent Bindu was on point. While the fly is the obvious hero of the movie, the hidden hero is S. S. Rajamouli, the director of Eega. The director managed to convey a fly’s emotions successfully and also created humorous scenes between the fly and the villain. With his vision and incredible execution, he crafted a movie which was the first of its kind, not just in Tollywood but in the entire Indian cinema.
