Since the Coronavirus pandemic hit the world, people have been staying indoors to safeguard themselves. Theatres have been closed or have been running with minimum capacity to ensure safety. OTT platforms became a boon for both filmmakers and audiences. The Family Man is a successful web series that premiered on the OTT platform Prime Video. This series revolves around the double life of a secret agent and was loved by the viewers.
The second season of this series began shooting in 2019 and since then went through some rough patches to get the camera rolling due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Finally, the makers released the trailer featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Samantha Akkineni and Priyamani in the lead roles. Samantha is making her digital and Hindi debut with this series. Samantha was cast as Raji, a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LLTE) terrorist leader. While the trailer received appreciation, criticism also came its way with regards to Samantha’s character.
Tamil Nadu government wrote a letter to the central government requesting to ban the show stating that the show depicts the Eelam Tamils in a highly objectionable manner. Raj and DK, the makers of The Family Man responded to all the criticism that had come their way. The duo stated, they crafted their show with sensitivity and not in a way that would be disrespectful to Tamilians. They requested people to wait till the show premieres. Raj and DK expressed confidence that people will change their minds once the show premieres and will also appreciate it. The Family Man Season 2 will premiere on the OTT platform Prime Video from 4th June onwards.
