Some movies are like a fresh breeze. They allure us with simple yet charming stories. One such movie is the Sumanth and Kamalinee Mukherjee starrer Godavari (2006.) This movie was directed by Sekhar Kammula who is known for his mellow romances with a pinch of slice of life. On this day, 15 years ago, Godavari hit the theatres and needless to say, was loved by the audiences.
Godavari follows the lives of two people with big dreams. Ram dreams of becoming a politician and serving his country. Seetha wants to start her own business and make it big instead of getting married like her family insists. Ram is also in love with his cousin Raji who is getting married in Bhadrachalam. Ram gets on the boat to Bhadrachalam upon his grandmother’s insistence and meets Seetha there. Those few days on the scenic Godavari river change the lives of both Ram and Seetha forever. Sumanth as a determined yet distraught Ram and Kamilinee as the strong and independent Seetha aced their roles to perfection. The animated dog and its journey on the boat added a subtle humour to the movie.
Sekhar Kammula crafted an alluring tale of common people and their big dreams and love stories. The music by K. M. Radha Krishan brought life to the movie. Songs like Uppongele Godavari and Andamgalena were super hits. Godavari is one of the most feel good movies to be ever made in Tollywood.
Here is to 15 years of Godavari!
