This week was rather tumultuous for Tollywood, with some movies getting postponed, an unexpected loss, and some celebrating their birthdays and many more. Let us look at the newsmakers of this week:
- The 50 Million Mark: Pushpa and Akhanda Movies
Tollywood is definitely making pan Indian level movies. Our good old Tollywood has gone national and is receiving monumental response all over the country. The Prelude of Pushparaj and the Title Roar of Akhanda movies were both released a few weeks ago and already shattered records. These two videos amassed over 50 million views and have been trending since their release.
- Streaming Alert: Vakeel Saab
The much awaited Vakeel Saab movie starring Pawan Kalyan was released on 9th April in theatres and was a blockbuster. Vakeel Saab is now available for streaming on the OTT platform Prime Video.

- Postponed: Narappa, Acharya, Ek Mini Katha Release and Valimai First Look
The second wave of the Coronavirus was stronger than anyone ever anticipated and is drastically affecting the population. The Venkatesh starrer Narappa, Chiranjeevi’s Acharya and Ek Mini Katha movies were postponed due to the current situation. Ajith starrer Valimai first look was also postponed for the same reason.
Keeping in view of the pandemic situation, #Acharya movie will not be releasing on May 13.
New Release date will be announced once the situation becomes normal.

- Shooting Update: Thank You Movie
While many movies got delayed, Thank You starring Naga Chaitanya and Raashi Khanna and directed by Vikram Kumar is filming at a brisk pace. Naga Chaitanya headed to Italy for the shoot last week and Raashi Khanna soon followed.
- The Sudden Demise of K. V. Anand
Director and Cinematographer K. V. Anand who made blockbusters like Veedokkade (2009) and Rangam (2011) has passed away due to cardiac arrest, which was the result of Covid complications. Kollywood was already mourning the loss of actor Vivekh and this news came as a shock to many.
- Celebrity Birthdays: Samantha Akkineni, Samuthirakani, Brahmaji and Boyapati Sreenu
Popular actress Samantha, Kollywood Actor and director Samuthirakani, mass director Boyapati Sreenu and comedian Brahmaji had their birthdays this week.

- Covid Positive: Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde
The second wave of the Coronavirus is affecting many without any exception. Few weeks ago celebrities like Pawan Kalyan were tested positive for Covid 19. This week Pooja Hegde and Allu Arjun were tested positive. They both took to social media to share the news.

- Movie Anniversaries: Kushi, Pokiri, Baahubali 2, Simha and Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule
Many iconic movies happened to be released this week, in different years. Pawan Kalyan’s Kushi (2001) celebrated 20 years and Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri (2006) celebrated 15 years. The pan Indian success Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) was released this week, 4 years ago. Balakrishna’s Simha (2010) celebrated 11 years of release while the Venkatesh starrer Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule (2007) marks 14 years since its release this week.
