Following the blockbuster success of Mohanlal’s Malayalam film Drishyam 2 (2021,) the director also announced the sequel in Telugu. Drushyam is the Telugu remake of the Malayalam Drishyam, which was made in 2013. Drushyam (2014,) starred Daggubati Venkatesh, Meena and Nadhiya in the lead roles. Drishyam 2 earned rave reviews from critics who were skeptical about how Jeethu Joseph would handle a sequel of such highly rated prequel. However, Drishyam 2 proved everyone wrong with its nail biting script and proved itself as a worthy sequel.
According to speculations, it was believed that Rana Daggubati would be a part of the sequel and has been roped in to reprise the character of Thomas Bastin IPS, played by Murali Gopy in the original. However, Rana Daggubati finally cleared the air around the rumours surrounding his role in the movie. Rana said in an interview, “I am not acting in the movie Drishyam-2. It’s just a rumour (sic.)”
