Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi was all set to star in the Aamir Khan starrer Bollywood film, Laal Singh Chaddha. However, rumours have been doing rounds for a very long time that Vijay opted out of the film due to his body weight issues. The actor confirmed that he did opt out of the film but the reason is not what the rumours claim.
Vijay reveals how the role was offered to him. “Aamir Sir personally offered me the role. He then flew down to a small town in Tamil Nadu where I was shooting to narrate the script to me. For some reason, the director Advait Chandan couldn’t come. Aamir Sir came alone, narrated the script and stayed overnight in that town and left the next morning. Such a big superstar and no airs. And he is a marvelous storyteller. The way he narrated the story was mesmerizing. I immediately said yes (sic.)”
Showing his disappointment of not being able to be part of the big Bollywood project, Vijay said, “It (the pandemic) ransacked all our plans. After the lockdown, I had five Telugu projects in various stages of production to complete. I just couldn’t accommodate Laal Singh Chadha in my schedule (sic.)”
About the rumours being asked to quit the project because of his weight, Vijay gives a classic reply. “I am very comfortable with my body and my mind. Whichever project I go into, they go with me (sic.)”
Laal Singh Chaddha is a remake of the Tom Hanks starrer Forrest Gump. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan in a pivotal role.
