Uppena released in theaters and it stars Panja Vaisshnav Tej as the lead actor. Vaisshnav Tej is the latest scion from the family of Megastar Chiranjeevi to make his debut in Tollywood. Krithi Shetty is also making her debut as a lead actress in a Telugu movie and earlier worked in the Kannada and Tamil film industries.
Uppena tells the story of Aasi (Vaisshnav Tej) who is a fisherman and Bebamma (Krithi Shetty) a young college going girl. Aasi has been in love with Bebbamma since his childhood but Rayanam (Vijay Sethupathi) who is Bebamma’s father, does not like to approve of her relationship with Aasi. How Aasi and Bebbamma try to overcome the struggles of class and love, while avoiding the evil clutches of Rayanam forms the plot of Uppena.
Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty shine in their debut outing as lead actors. Vaisshnav Tej looked in his element during the action sequences and it is because he underwent martial arts training. Krithi Shetty is quite disarming with her smile and plays the role of an innocent girl to perfection. Buchi Babu Sana manages to deftly craft a story which manages to leave the viewer questioning morality and masculinity at the end of the movie. There are various instances in the plot which indicate there is not going to be a happy ending but Buchi Babu Sana handles the climax well despite the commercial setup.
Shamdat who handled the cinematography for Uppena managed to perfectly extract the essence of an idyllic small town which depends on fishing for its livelihood. Devi Sri Prasad’s songs have been doing the rounds long before the movie released and have been a hit with the audience. Uppena is a perfect outing for both Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty who have delivered good performances for their debut.
Although Uppena has a predictable ending, if love stories are your thing, then the movie is the perfect outing. Head over to the theaters to watch the story of Aasi and Bebamma over the weekend.
