The Thalapathy Vijay starrer Master, is one of the biggest and highly anticipated movies from the Tamil movie industry. Ahead of its release on 13th January, 2021, Thalapathy Vijay met with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswamy and requested him to issue an order allowing for 100% occupancy in movie theaters. Palaniswamy responded positively and had his government issue an order which allows movie theaters to increase seating capacity from 50% to 100%. The move was widely praised by fans as well as the movie industry.
However, it seems as if the happiness would be short lived as the Central Government intervened and issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu Government urging them to revoke their government order. The Madras High Court also issued a notice following the notice from the Central Government. Chief Minister Palaniswamy then issued an order which cancelled the previous relaxations and stated movie theaters should function with 50% capacity according to the Ministry Of Health guidelines.

The Central Government notice came on the backdrop of the healthcare system warning of dire consequences if movie theaters are allowed to function at full capacity. Chennai is seeing a sudden spurt in COVID hotspots after multiple cases were reported in the IIT Madras campus and Leela Palace Hotel.
Master and Eeshwaran are the two big releases which are coming up soon in Tamil Nadu. Following the new government orders, fans will no doubt be disappointed as they expected a full house. But the safety of the public is of utmost priority and therefore the filmmakers have to make do with the current situation.
