Vennelakanti Rajeshwar Prasad was a highly acclaimed lyricist in the South Indian movie industry. Considered as a veteran in the industry, Vennelakanti passed away due to a cardiac arrest at his residence in Chennai on Monday. Vennelakanti had a successful career spanning three decades and had penned lyrics for more than two thousand songs and dialogues for more than three hundred films.
Vennelakanti Rajeshwar Prasad was born in Nellore and took to writing poetry at a very young age apart from taking a keen interest in harikathas and spiritual discourses. Vennelakanti made his debut as a lyricist with the movie Sri Rama Chandrudu (1986.) Some of his notable works include writing lyrics for Aditya 369, Gharana Bullodu, Samarasimha Reddy, Criminal, Takkari Donga. His last movie was the Keerthy Suresh starrer Penguin. Interestingly, it was the late S.P. Balasubramanyam who encouraged Vennelakanti to come into the movie industry. Prior to working in the film industry, Vennelakanti was a bank employee.

The 63 year old veteran Vennelakanti Rajeshwar Prasad is survived by two songs and his wife. The elder son Vennalakanti Shashank is also a noted lyricist in the industry. Vennelakanti’s demise came as a shock to many singers and noted personalities in the movie industry and they expressed their grief and offered their condolences on social media.
