Oscar Award winning music composer A.R. Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum passed away today, on Monday, December 28, 2020. While the cause of her death cannot be ascertained at the moment, A.R. Rahman took to Twitter and shared a picture of his mother to mark the sad moment.
As the music maestro shared the photo of his mother Kareema Begum, condolences poured in on social media. Tollywood music composer Devi Sri Prasad retweeted A.R. Rahman’s mother’s picture and penned a heartfelt note. He wrote in the tweet, “A Great Mother KAREENA BEGUM JI who brought up a Great Son & LEGEND @arrahman SIR.. Sad to hear d news of her heavenly Abode. ThankU AMMA for giving us a Legend..We know Ur Sacrifices n Love behind d Making of Him..U wil live On forever through his MUSIC (sic.)”

Kareema Begum was the wife of famous music composer R.K. Sekhar who passed away in 1976. She was a mother of four daughters A.R. Reihana, Ishrath Qadri, Fathima Shekhar and only son A.R. Rahman.
Rahman was extremely close to his mother and often cherished his memories with her at many events. According to the sources, Kareema Begum’s cremation will take place later on Monday.
