Talented actor Vijay Sethupathi, who was the protagonist of Muthiah Muralitharan biopic titled 800, has now officially opted out of the film. The film was in controversy for Vijay playing Muralitharan, who is a Sri Lankan Tamil and many Tamil netizens claimed that the cricketer supported 30 years of civil war against Indian Tamilians.
Therefore, the cricketer didn’t want to hamper Vijay’s career and has asked him to quit the project. Sethupathi on Monday shared Muralitharan’s statement on Twitter and wrote, “Thank you and goodbye.”
Muthiah Muralitharan’s statement reads, “I am issuing this statement as there has been controversy around my biopic 800. Due to misconception, several people were pressing actor Vijay Sethupathi to drop out of 800 the film. I don’t want one of the finest actor’s in Tamil Nadu to face any kind of trouble, hence I request him to drop out of the project. There should be no obstacles for Vijay Sethupathi in the future because of this movie. I never get tired of the obstacles. I have reached this position only by facing and overcoming obstacles. I accepted this biopic because I thought the movie will inspire and provide confidence to aspiring young cricketers. I am sure that the makers will overcome these hurdles. They have promised me that they will announce this soon. I will stand by their decisions (sic.)”

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi currently has 10 films in his kitty right now, in various stages of production. The actor will play the antagonist in the Tamil film Master and the Telugu film Uppena. Vijay Sethupathi also has Tamil films Ka Pae Ranasingam, Kadaisi Vivasayi, Laabam, Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal and Tughlaq Darbar. He will also be seen in Aamir Khan’s Bollywood film Laal Singh Chaddha.
