Director Gunasekhar who tasted box-office success with his mythological films is back with yet another release. Gunasekhar and Rana Daggubati’s Hiranyakashyapa has been postponed due to Coronavirus. As the film is a massive budget film, the director is reluctant to begin the shooting process during COVID times. In the meantime, director Gunasekhar has announced another mythological tale titled Shaakuntalam, which is said to be set in the Himalayas.
Talking about it in a recent interview, the director said, “In the Aadiparva of Mahabharata, the story of Shaakuntalam and Dushyantha is very interesting. The film will be an on-screen adaptation of Kalidas’ Abnignana Shaakuntalam. I think it is one of the greatest love stories ever told and the story will be set in the Himalayas. The idea for the film came to be during the lockdown (sic.)”
Last week, the director took to Twitter and made this announcement with the first look motion poster. Just after the week of the announcement, from Samantha Akkineni to Pooja Hegde, many rumours arose of who would be the part of this mythological film. However, the cast and crew of the mythological film is yet to be finalised. NThe film is produced by Neelima Gunasekar and Mani Sharma will compose the music.

Meanwhile, Gunasekhar’s last release film Rudhramadevi clocked 5 years last week. NThe film starred Anushka Shetty, Allu Arjun and Rana Daggubati recently. Fans have huge expectations on Shaakuntalam as the director’s previous film Rudhramadevi did wonders at the box office.
