The Indian movie industry has been dealt its biggest blow as the legendary singer S.P. Balasubramaniam lost his life after a long fight with COVID-19. S.P. Balasubramaniam was admitted to the MGM Hospital in Chennai on August 5th when he tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. SPB said he got himself admitted as a precautionary measure but his condition deteriorated suddenly and he had to be put on ventilatory support. However, the legendary singer lost his life due to a cardio respiratory arrest.
SPB was laid to rest with full state honours and a 21 gun salute at his farmhouse in Tamaraipakkam village in Tamil Nadu. The farmhouse was flocked by fans of the late singer and the number of fans who showed up to pay their last respects shocked S.P. Charan. Charan said “I sincerely thank everyone who has been praying for my father’s health for the last few weeks. My family and I will always cherish the concern and love showered on him (sic.)”

SP charan also announced that he will soon be building a memorial in remembrance of his father SP Balasubrahmanyam, dedicating it to his fans. He said “SPB has dedicated his life to music and he is a people’s man. All these days I know him as my father and a singer but I am shocked to see the number of people gathered to see the last rites and the love he was shown. So, I will soon be establishing his memorial and dedicating it to his admirers and fans. I will announce more details of this soon (sic.)”
S.P. Balasubrahmanyam was considered one of the greatest playback singers and has crooned over 40,000 songs in languages like Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam in a career span of five decades. He garnered six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages and is also a proud recipient of the highest civilian award like the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan, from the Government of India.
