The Indian movie industry has been dealt its biggest blow as the legendary singer S.P. Balasubramaniam lost his life after a long fight with COVID-19. The entire nation and especially the South Indian states where SPB is hugely popular is in a state of shock over the news of his demise. S.P. Balasubramaniam was admitted to the MGM Hospital in Chennai on August 5th when he tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. SPB said he got himself admitted as a precautionary measure but his condition deteriorated suddenly and he had to be put on ventilatory support.
Celebrities and public alike have been praying for his recovery continuously and for a while it looked like the prayers worked since SPB’s condition began to improve. S.P. Charan, the son of SPB said his father was doing well and undergoing physiotherapy after testing negative for COVID-19. But SPBs condition deteriorated once again due to post COVID complications and lost his life consequently.
This has left the nation in a state of shock as the news of S.P. Balasubramaniam’s demise spread. The demise of SPB will undoubtedly leave a huge void in the Indian Music industry since he was hugely responsible for popularising South Indian songs.
S.P. Balasubrahmanyam is considered one of the greatest playback singers and has crooned over 40,000 songs in languages like Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam in a career span of five decades. He garnered six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages and is also a proud recipient of the highest civilian award like the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan, from the Government of India.
