Thalapathy Vijay starrer Master is the biggest and highly anticipated movie from the Tamil movie industry. The movie will be released in multiple languages in order to cater to a wider audience as Vijay’s fandom extends to many states and countries outside Tamil Nadu. The movie was originally scheduled to be released in April but since the lockdown was implemented movie theaters were shut down which forced a lot of movie releases to be postponed.
Rumours about Master opting for OTT release have been running around for many months. Though the makers have clarified it many times, due to the lockdown situation and theatres being shut down, the theatrical release seems impossible anytime soon. The makers are ready to wait for theatres to reopen as they want Master only for theatrical release.
In the recent interaction with the media, Master director Lokesh Kangaraj spoke and gave the audience an update regarding Master. He said, “Vijay’s Master will release only in theatres. There is no chance of the film releasing on any OTT platform. We are waiting for the theatres to re-open in the country (sic.)”
When asked about the film’s release date, Lokesh said, “I have been in touch with several people in the industry. I heard that they are in talks with the government regarding the reopening of theatres. It has been seven months and if they don’t re-open the theatres in the future, then the livelihoods of thousands of people will be affected. Let’s wait and see (sic.)”
Master is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and features Malavika Mohanan as the female lead with Vijay Sethupathi playing the villain. The film is produced by Xavier Britto’s XB Film Creators and features Antony Varghese, Andrea, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Sriman, Sanjeev, Srinath, Ramya Subramanian and Gouri Kishan in pivotal roles.
