In what can be called as the biggest curveball of the movie announcements this year, Prabhas’s announcement of his twenty second movie titled Adipurush, is right up there on the top. Adipurush is a special announcement in many ways but mainly because it is based on the Indian mythological epic Ramayan and also because Prabhas is slated to play the role of Lord Ram.
Needless to say, as soon as Adipurush was announced, speculation was rife as to who would be the leading lady (Sita) and who would play the role of the antagonist. National Award winning actress Keerthy Suresh is widely speculated to play the role of Sita. It was also speculated that a Bollywood actor would be playing the role of the antagonist, a source close to the movie said Saif Ali Khan is being considered for the role. The source said “Yes, Saif will feature in Adipurush. In fact, after seeing Saif’s performance in Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, Om was rather keen on casting him again. Obviously Saif would come on board only if his part was a good one, and apparently Raut has roped him in to play the villain. Now given that the film is an adaptation of the fight between good and evil, it is likely that Saif will be almost a parallel lead opposite Prabhas in Adipurush (sic.)”

Adipurush will be directed by Om Raut and will be his second directorial venture after the period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Saif Ali Khan played the role of the antagonist in Tanhaji and his performance was lauded by critics worldwide. Adipurush will be shot in Hindi and Telugu while being dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and several international languages. The film is expected to go on to the floors in 2021 and will eye a 2022 release and will be made in 3D.
