Allari Naresh’s upcoming film, Naandhi is based on a story of an innocent man who is jailed for a crime he did not commit and is subjected to torture and abuse by law enforcement officers.
Speaking to a leading daily about his upcoming impactful film, Allari Naresh said, “What happened with Jayaraj and Fenix is not an isolated case. There have been several cases of police brutality and custodial killings across the country and my film Naandhi is about one such incident. The idea came to me after I read an article about a prisoner who spent several decades in jail for a crime he did not commit. I researched the case for six months and spoke to the lawyers, judges and police officers involved with the case(sic.)”
Allari Naresh opted for a naked look in the film. The actor opened up about why he chose it and said, “My Director was initially a little hesitant while narrating this particular scene. He gave me the option of wearing boxers or shorts, but I agreed to go fully nude because the situation demanded it. This is how the police interrogate suspects to make them confess their crimes and we wanted it to look authentic. I’m sure this role is going to take a lot of people by surprise(sic.)”
The makers of the film are just 10 days away from finishing the shooting. But since it requires about 100 crew members, they are waiting for the Coronavirus pandemic situation to be contained. Naandhi is directed by debutant director Vijay Kanakamedala and Satish Vegesna is bankrolling the film. The film also features Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Priyadarshi and Haarish Uthman in pivotal roles.
