When Baashha was released in 1995, little did anyone expect it to grow into something so big that it achieved a cult status in Indian cinema. Many directors have tried to emulate the screenplay of Baashha but no one managed to come even close to the original and it is all thanks to director Suresh Krissna’s vision and Rajiikanth’s charisma. Some of the movies which have emulated the screenplay of Baashha, are Indra, Samarasimha Reddy, Aadi, Simhadri and Tulasi.
While Baashha is a one of its kind of cinema, there is some very interesting trivia behind the movie. It would come as a surprise to know Baashha was inspired from a scene from the Bollywood movie Hum which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth and Govinda. Rajinikanth liked one scene in Hum and asked director Suresh Krissna to make a movie based on this one scene. The title Baashha was also suggested by Rajinikanth himself. The scene in question is Amitabh Bachchan reciting his past to a college principal and was adapted to Baashha as well and it went on to become one of the best scenes in Indian cinema. Amitabh Bachchan talks to a principal about a college seat for his brother (Govinda) in Hum while Rajinikanth replicated the scene so that he is seen talking to a principal for a college seat for his sister in Baashha.
The movie’s first song Nenu Autovanni, turned out to be a lucky charm for a few of the dancers who featured in it. The first row of dancers behind Rajinikanth in the song, went on to become popular choreographers which include the likes of Amma Rajasekhar, Kalyan and Ashok Raj.
