Janaki or Janakamma, as she is fondly called, is a legendary playback artist who sang for movies in multiple languages. Janaki is recognised as one of the best playback singers of the 1970s and 1980s having sung alongside S.P. Balasubramaniam, Ilayaraja and Yesudas. Janaki has sung in almost every genre imaginable and holds a special place in the hearts of music aficionados. However, rumours about the demise of the 82 year old Janaki were doing the rounds and this irked Balasubramaniam who came out with a video message.
In the video message Balasubramaniam talks about how he received multiple calls since morning asking about singer Janaki’s demise. A clearly irked Balasubramaniam can be seen clarifying the rumours by calling Janaki’s demise nothing but a hoax and a joke in bad taste. Moreover, Balasubramaniam goes on to confirm Janaki is doing perfectly fine and ends the video by requesting people to use social media to spread positivity and not hate. Janaki’s son Murali, too, put the rumours of her demise to rest by clarifying to television channels that his mother is very much alive. Watch the video here!

Janaki is a veteran in the music industry and her four National Awards and ten Nandi Awards for the Best Female Playback Singer is testimony to her legacy. This is not the first time rumours of Janaki’s death have surfaced on social media. In 2016, similar rumours had come up at the time she announced her retirement from singing with the Malayalam song Amma Poovinum.
